Rhode Island August Events 2026: What's Happening Near Johnston This Month

Quick Answer

August in Rhode Island is packed — from waterfront festivals to farmers markets and late-summer food events. Here's what we're excited about near Johnston this month, and how we're fueling up for all of it.

Rhode Island August Events 2026: What's Happening Near Johnston This Month

August in Rhode Island hits different. The humidity is real, the traffic on 95 is real, and somehow the whole state decides to pack every festival, market, and outdoor event into about six weekends. We're not complaining. After a summer of sweating through our kitchen at 1345 Hartford Ave (yes, the AC saga continues — we're still here, still baking), we've been keeping a close eye on what's going on around Johnston, Providence, and the rest of the state this month.

Here's what we're excited about — and a few ways to fuel up before you head out.

What's On in Rhode Island This August

Salisbury Farm — Pick-Your-Own Season, Johnston RI

If you haven't been to Salisbury Farm on Howard Avenue in Johnston yet this summer, August is your window. They're one of the oldest working farms in Rhode Island, and late summer is when the pick-your-own operation really hits its stride — tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and whatever else survived the heat. We've sourced from local farms like Salisbury for seasonal specials before, and there's something genuinely different about produce that was in the ground 24 hours ago. If you're heading over on a Saturday morning, swing by us first — we're open 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and a grain bowl or breakfast sandwich travels well.

Providence Farmers Market — Kennedy Plaza & Wayland Square

The Providence Farmers Market runs through the end of October, and August is peak season. The Wayland Square location (Saturdays, 9am–1pm) and the Kennedy Plaza market (Wednesdays, 11am–2pm) are both worth the trip if you're coming in from Johnston or Cranston. You'll find vendors selling everything from local honey to fresh-cut flowers to artisan bread — and yes, we notice the bread. We bake ours in-house daily with five ingredients or less, so we have opinions. But the market bakers are doing real work too, and it's worth supporting.

Rhode Island Seafood Festival — Providence Waterfront

The Rhode Island Seafood Festival typically returns to the Providence waterfront in late summer, drawing crowds from across the state and beyond. It's one of those events that puts Rhode Island's food identity front and center — local fishermen, local restaurants, local vendors. If you're making a day of it in Providence, the waterfront area has a lot going on in August. Pair it with a walk through the East Side or a stop at The Coffee Exchange on Wickenden Street — they've been roasting their own beans since 1984 and are worth the detour.

Cranston and Johnston Community Events

Both Cranston and Johnston tend to have late-summer community events — outdoor concerts, park gatherings, and neighborhood block parties that don't always make the big event calendars but are worth checking your town's social pages for. Johnston's parks department and the Cranston Recreation Department both post updates regularly. If you're local and haven't followed your town's official pages, August is a good time to start.

How We're Thinking About August at Wicked Fresh

Honestly? August is a grind for us in the best way. Our regulars are in full summer mode — they want something cold, something filling, and something that doesn't make them feel like they need a nap at 2pm. We've been leaning hard into our smoothie lineup and our grain bowls for exactly that reason.

Our acai bowls have been moving fast. We build them with real acai, fresh fruit, and granola — not the pre-made frozen stuff you get at chains. Same with our smoothies: we're blending to order, not pouring from a bag. If you haven't tried the protein smoothie options, that's worth a look — we use clean protein, real fruit, and nothing you'd need a chemistry degree to pronounce.

We're also still pouring Katalyst Kombucha on draft — they're out of Greenfield, MA, and their fermentation process is the real deal. On a hot August afternoon, a cold kombucha on draft is genuinely one of the better things you can put in your body. We started carrying them because we believed in what they were doing, and our regulars have made it a staple.

And yes, we still have Yacht Club Soda — brewed in Providence since 1915. If you want a craft soda that's actually from Rhode Island, that's your answer. We use it in our Wicked Sodas, and it's one of those local partnerships we're genuinely proud of.

Before You Head Out This August

A few practical notes if you're planning around any of these events:

We're open Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm, and Saturday 9am to 5pm. We're closed Sundays. If you're heading to the Providence Farmers Market on a Wednesday or Saturday, we're a reasonable stop on the way — Johnston to Providence is a straight shot down 295 or through Cranston.

You can check our full menu at wickedfreshri.com/menu — we update it when things change, and we do change things seasonally. If you want to order ahead, you can do that at wickedfreshri.com. We also answer the phone at 401-273-7374 if you have questions about what's available.

August goes fast. Rhode Island summers always do. Get out to the farm, hit the farmers market, catch whatever's happening in your neighborhood — and eat something real before you go.
