Rhode Island July Events 2026: What to Do, Where to Eat, and How to Make the Most of Summer in Johnston

July 13, 20265 min read

Quick Answer

From WaterFire Providence to pick-your-own berries at Salisbury Farm and the Hope Street Farmers Market, July in Rhode Island is packed. Here's our honest local guide to the best summer events near Johnston — plus what we're fueling up on at Wicked Fresh Cafe this month.

July in Rhode Island hits different. The humidity is real, the sunsets are long, and if you know where to look, there's genuinely great stuff happening all over the state — a lot of it right in our backyard here in Johnston.

We've been talking about this at the cafe a lot lately. Customers come in before heading to WaterFire, or they stop by after a morning at the farmers market, and we end up swapping notes on what's worth doing this month. So we figured we'd put it all in one place — a real, honest guide to July 2026 events in and around Johnston, RI, from people who actually live and work here.

WaterFire Providence: Three Chances to See It This Month

If you haven't been to WaterFire yet this summer, July gives you three separate opportunities — and they're all different experiences.

Friday, July 17 is a Basin lighting, running from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This is the more intimate version — focused on the Waterplace Basin area, a little less crowded than a full lighting, and honestly one of our favorite ways to experience it. You get the fire, the music, the smell of woodsmoke over the river, without the full Providence gridlock.

The July 4th full lighting already happened (and if you missed it, we heard it was spectacular — 250 years of American Independence, nearly the entire Providence River lit up), but the Basin lighting on the 17th is still very much worth the trip.

WaterFire is free to attend, though they do accept donations. Plan to arrive 30–60 minutes before sunset to get a good spot. Parking fills up fast — we usually recommend parking near the train station and walking in.

If you're coming from Johnston, it's about 20 minutes. Stop in at Wicked Fresh before you go — we're open until 6:00 PM on weekdays, and a good sandwich or smoothie before an evening out beats overpriced event food every time. Check our menu for what's fresh this week.

Salisbury Farm in Johnston: Pick-Your-Own Berries Right Now

This one is genuinely special, and it's literally in our town. Salisbury Farm at 11 Peck Hill Road in Johnston has been doing pick-your-own for generations, and July is prime time for raspberries. They're also known for strawberries earlier in the season, and later in summer they'll have green beans and sunflowers.

Hours are generally 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily (sometimes 4:00 PM on Fridays), but availability changes with the weather and crop conditions — call ahead at 401-942-9741 or check their Facebook page before you go. The farm stand also carries local honey, Rhode Island maple syrup, and their own preserves, which are worth picking up while you're there.

We love Salisbury Farm because it's the kind of place that reminds you Rhode Island is still genuinely agricultural, even this close to Providence. We've sourced local produce through connections like theirs before, and it's always a reminder of why buying local matters — the flavor difference is real.

Hope Street Farmers Market: Every Saturday Through the Summer

If you want fresh local produce, artisan goods, and a genuinely good Saturday morning vibe, Hope Street Farmers Market at Lippitt Park in Providence runs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM through the summer. It's one of the best farmers markets in the state — consistently strong vendor lineup, good energy, and you can usually find things you won't see at a grocery store.

From Johnston, it's a quick 15-minute drive. We've picked up ingredients there ourselves over the years, and it's where a lot of our regulars spend their Saturday mornings before swinging by the cafe on the way home.

For those closer to Cranston, the Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet runs Saturdays 9:00 AM to noon and is worth checking out too. And if you're in the Warwick area, Goddard Memorial Park Farmers Market runs Fridays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

What We're Fueling Up On This July

July is when our kitchen leans into cold, refreshing, and genuinely satisfying. A few things our regulars have been loving this month:

Our Bananarama smoothie has been a top seller — real fruit, quality protein, no fillers. People drive from Cranston and North Providence specifically for it, which still makes us proud every time someone mentions it.

We've also been pouring a lot of Katalyst Kombucha on draft — it's brewed in Greenfield, MA with live cultures, and it's the kind of thing that actually tastes good on a hot day while also doing something good for your gut. We've carried it for a while now and it remains one of our most-asked-about drinks.

And for anyone who hasn't tried our Yacht Club Soda craft builds — Yacht Club has been brewing in Providence since 1915, and we use their sodas as the base for our custom wicked soda menu. On a July afternoon, a cold craft soda is hard to beat.
