Quick Answer
From the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park to the Chocolate Expo in Lincoln and Autumnfest in Woonsocket, here's our guide to the best Rhode Island fall events happening near Johnston this October and November 2026.
October in Rhode Island hits different. The air gets that crisp bite, the leaves start turning along Hartford Ave, and suddenly there's a reason to leave the house on a Saturday that isn't just errands. We've been watching the fall event calendar closely — partly because we love this state, partly because our regulars keep asking us what's worth doing this season.
So here's our honest rundown of what's happening near Johnston this October and November 2026. We'll tell you what we'd actually go to, and what to grab from us before you head out.
October Events Worth Your Weekend
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo
Running October 1 – November 1, 2026
This one's been a Rhode Island tradition for decades, and it still delivers. Roger Williams Park Zoo transforms into a glowing walkway of thousands of hand-carved pumpkins — some of them genuinely jaw-dropping in scale and detail. It runs nightly through Halloween and into November, so you've got plenty of chances to go.
It's about 20 minutes from us in Johnston, and honestly, it's the kind of thing you do once and then end up going back to every year. Grab a warm drink from us before you head over — our multigrain toast with almond butter and a hot lavender chamomile tea is the move for a cool October evening.
Autumnfest in Woonsocket — October 9–12, 2026
World War II Veterans Memorial State Park, Woonsocket
Autumnfest is Northern Rhode Island's biggest fall festival, and it's right in our backyard. Four days of food vendors, artisan crafts, carnival rides, and the annual Columbus Day Parade. It draws a huge crowd from Johnston, North Providence, and Lincoln — we always see familiar faces come in the morning of Autumnfest weekend looking for fuel before the day.
If you're going, come see us first. We're open Monday through Friday 7am–6pm and Saturday 9am–5pm. A breakfast sandwich on our house-baked multigrain bread and a cold brew will set you up right.
Galbani Columbus Day Festival on Federal Hill — October 9–12, 2026
Federal Hill, Providence
Federal Hill is already one of the best food neighborhoods in New England, and during Columbus Day weekend it goes full celebration mode. Food vendors, cooking demonstrations, art, entertainment, and a parade through the heart of Providence's Italian neighborhood. If you've never walked Federal Hill during this festival, it's worth the trip.
We love Federal Hill — it's a reminder of what a neighborhood food culture can look like when it's been built over generations. Different from what we're doing on Hartford Ave, but the same spirit: real food, real community.
WaterFire Providence — October 17 & 24, 2026
Providence Riverwalk
WaterFire never gets old. The October lightings have a different energy than summer — smaller crowds, cooler air, the fires reflecting off the water with that autumn darkness setting in earlier. The October 17 lighting is for the United Way of Rhode Island's Centennial Celebration, and October 24 is another partial lighting.
Providence is 15 minutes from Johnston. If you're making a night of it, plan dinner on Federal Hill or Wickenden Street before heading to the riverwalk. And if you want breakfast the next morning, you know where to find us.
Bowen's Wharf Seafood Festival — October 17–18, 2026
Newport, RI
A bit further south, but worth mentioning because it's one of the best food events in the state. Newport's historic waterfront fills up with chowder, oysters, lobster rolls, stuffies, and fried calamari from vendors across Rhode Island. If you're a seafood person, this is your weekend.
We're a breakfast and lunch spot, not a seafood shack — but we respect the craft. Rhode Island's food scene is built on this kind of local, ingredient-forward thinking, and Bowen's Wharf is a great example of it done right.
November Events to Put on Your Calendar
The Chocolate Expo Rhode Island — November 15, 2026
Bally's Twin River Lincoln
This one's right up the road from Johnston. The Chocolate Expo's Holiday Edition comes to Lincoln in November, and it's exactly what it sounds like: a full event dedicated to chocolate, holiday treats, and artisan confections. Great for a family outing or if you just need a reason to eat a lot of chocolate in one afternoon.
Lincoln is practically our neighbor — it's one of the communities we see regularly at the cafe, along with folks from Smithfield and North Smithfield coming down Hartford Ave. If you're heading to the Expo, swing by us first for a real breakfast.
Good Trade Makers Market — November 21–22, 2026
Providence
The Good Trade Makers Market is a curated artisan market that shows up in Providence for the holiday season. Local makers, small-batch goods, handmade gifts — the kind of shopping that actually feels good. It's a nice counterpoint to the big-box holiday rush, and it fits the same values we try to bring to our food: small-batch, made with intention, worth paying attention to.
WaterFire Salute to Veterans — November 7, 2026
Providence Riverwalk
WaterFire's 14th Annual Salute to Veterans is a meaningful one. The November lighting has a different tone — more reflective, more community-focused. Worth going if you want to experience WaterFire in its most intentional form.
How We're Thinking About Fall at Wicked Fresh
Fall is our favorite season in the kitchen. We're leaning into warm, grounding flavors — our sweet potato breakfast bowl has been getting a lot of love lately, and we've been working with what's coming in from Salisbury Farm in Johnston as the harvest season winds down. Our Portuguese bolo-style muffins are baked fresh every morning, and the multigrain bread — five ingredients, baked in-house daily — is the kind of thing that makes a cold morning feel manageable.
If you're heading out to any of these events, we're your pre-game. Monday through Friday, 7am–6pm. Saturday, 9am–5pm. We're at 1345 Hartford Ave, Johnston, RI 02919, and you can reach us at 401-273-7374.
